Earlier this month we received notice that the Waypoint Wesleyan Church Plant in Toronto has been closed. This came after several months of deliberation by Revs. David & Olivia Phillips about the sustainability of this mission. They wrote a post on the ministry’s Facebook page regarding this decision:

“Olivia and I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. After much discussion and prayer we feel that our time here in the city of Toronto has come to an end. The Waypoint Church Plant has officially closed. We, again, thank everyone for their prayers and support. We will keep you all updated as we transition during this time in our lives and ministry.” Waypoint Wesleyan had been hosting regular gaming nights at the Little Theatre on Bloor Street near Ossington. They also had built a number of friendships with spiritually open persons in their community of Bloorview Village.

Sadly, a core group of team members and committed participants never seemed to materialize during the mission’s 17 months of operation. No one can deny the challenges and complexities of beginning a new church work in our city. But we remain praying and hopeful in what the Lord might raise up next.

One of Milliken Church’s clear ministry priorities is the nurturing of new and established Wesleyan Church ministries in metro-Toronto. If you have been a regular financial supporter of this mission, we thank you for your past and present generosity. We would now encourage you to re-direct this giving toward one of our other mission partnerships. To learn more about these options, please speak with Pastor Pryor or Sathi Selliah (our Church Treasurer).

Thank you for your continued prayers and interest, in both the Phillips Family and the future of new outreach ministries in metro-Toronto.

Black History Fellowship Lunch Our Black History Committee invites you to attend this special event today after our morning worship service. Come and learn more about the history of African-Canadians through our time together.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will take place this Tuesday, beginning at 5:30pm. Join us in the gym for sweet food and words of devotion we prepare ourselves for the start of Lent.

Ash Wednesday Worship will take place this Wednesday evening at 7pm. Commit yourself to the spiritual journey of discipleship during this period. We will begin an interesting series on the prayers of God’s people, recorded in Scripture. Discover how their prayers can inform and enhance your own.

Men’s Breakfast will take place this Saturday morning at 8:30am. Men of all ages are encouraged to join us as we consider lessons for men today from the life of Abraham.

Kingswood University Mission Team Next Sunday a group of young people from Kingswood University will be with us as part of their cross-cultural mission experience here in Toronto. Professor Matthew Friedman who teaches Inter-cultural Studies at the school, will be our guest speaker. We look forward to what he will share.
