Airport Welcome Ministry A local international student ministry organization has asked for our assistance to greet newly arriving students at the Pearson International Airport. If you would be willing to assist with this ministry on Wednesday, please speak with Pastor Pryor today. Training is available at the airport, prior to the two-and-a-half-hour shift for each volunteer team. Thank you.

Sunday School Classes will begin on September 8th. Plan to start the school year by investing in your study of Scripture each Sunday morning at 9:30am. Speak with Superintendent Lance Alcindor to learn more.

Language Exchange Class On Thursday evenings in September (at 7pm), we will host a short series of classes to help you learn a new language! We need several students who speak only English, and several students who speak only Mandarin. Come exercise your brain – and learn words you can use to greet a new neighbour! A sign-up sheet for this class is located at the Information Desk. The four weeks of fun begin September 5th!

Sierra Leone

Missionary Nurse Carrie Jo Cain wrote this week with an update on the ministry of the Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital…

Dear Milliken Church Friends,

This year our hospital was designated by the government of Sierra Leone as the official Referral Centre for a large area of the province. This means an increase in patients, who fall in the category covered by “Free Health Care” promised by the government. But in reality the government gives no support, so we are expected to provide care and find the resources somewhere else!

Here in the rural north of the country, there is no insurance, and everything is “pay as you go.” So often patients die because there is no money to buy drugs, or get to other services we simply do not have. The number of maternity patients has almost tripled this year. This is partially because a new ambulance system that started operating in our district seven months ago, bringing more patients to our hospital.

Our paediatrics unit has also been experiencing heavier than usual inpatients as word of our expanded free care for kids up to age 12 has spread. The best part is that our mortality rate is dropping steadily as patients are coming sooner and able to receive good care. Your support of the Alpha Program greatly empowers this. Thank you so much for your gifts! They make the difference between life and death for many little ones.

The increase in both maternity patients and children coming to our facility means that we really need a paediatrician. Please pray that the Lord would bring us a permanent doctor with this skill set. There is more to write, but I will stop here and send another update soon. The demands on our staff and facility are many.

We crave your prayers lifting us up. We want to be effective servants and work as assigned by our Master – to know Him and to make Him known.

– Warmly, Carrie Jo Cain
