Season of Kingdomtide

During these weeks the Church around the world celebrates the coming of God’s kingdom on earth. The colour green on our altar reminds us that the Lord brings growth, health, and fullness of life to all enter this kingdom. Taco Fundraiser Lunch Please plan to stay after the worship service today to enjoy lunch and support our teens as they raise money to attend the Wesleyan Youth Convention later this year. We ask for $10 per person (and children 10 and under eating for free). Thank you for your support.

Our Sympathy extends to the family of Sister Norma Miller who passed away last Wednesday. The Arrangements will take place here at Milliken Church this Wednesday (October 23rd) with Visitation beginning at 10am, and the Funeral Service at 11am. Please remember this family in your prayers during the days ahead.

Language Exchange Class will begin again this Thursday evening at 7pm. All who have participated are invited to sign up and attend for this next five-week session that builds on what we have already learned. Sign up at the Information Desk today to confirm your attendance.

Men’s Breakfast will take place this Saturday at 8:30am. Men of all ages are encouraged to attend. Our conversation includes insights for the lives of men from the story of Abraham. We hope to see you there.

New Church Photo Directory We want you to be in our next church pictorial directory! Please make an appointment to have your picture taken on November 14th, 15th or 16th. Please also complete an information updates so that we will have accurate information for you and your family! Sign up at the table in the foyer today. No purchases are necessary to be included in this important church resource.

Introducing Secret Sisters Ministry Secret Sisters is a great way to connect with another lady in our church family. By joining, you commit to pray for another lady regularly, and secretly encourage her from November 10, 2019 to June 28, 2020. There will be a Secret Sister mailbox at the back of the Sanctuary where you can leave a note or token for your Sister at least once a month! Remind her that you are committed to think about and pray for her. We will have a Reveal in June and you will find out who your Sister was. See Harriet Farrell for a questionnaire if you are interested to learn more or to join this ministry. Please return your questionnaire by November 3rd to be included. Thank you!

Nicaragua

Missionaries Ryan & Sarah Schmitz serve as Global Partners in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. They recently wrote with another update on the work there……

Dear Milliken Church Friends,

Although we (as North Americans) are wired to quickly roll up our sleeves and get to work, our experience over the past seven years in Nicaragua has taught us to slow down and ask good questions. We’ve learned to spend a lot more time listening. It’s not only a sign of love and respect, but helps us learn and grow as missionaries. Many solutions to community problems can only be found by tapping into the strengths and wisdom of families and local leaders who are rooted in the area for the long haul.

This fall we celebrated the 13th Anniversary of the Las Colinas School here in Matagalpa. There were folkloric dances, poems, prayers, songs, Bible readings and a pageant of dresses made from recycled materials. The school is incredibly grateful for all the people and teams who have partnered with them over the years.

Last month Missionary Pastors Tom & Lydia Hines visited to teach us and our neighbours about Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. We were so grateful for the openness of those who attended this unique leadership training event.

Please keep our Nicaraguan leaders (of both schools and churches) in your prayers. The country continues to face many challenges both economically and politically. Tensions run high as the country grapples with how to move forward in this crisis. We all need wisdom and strength on a daily basis. And thank you for investing in our lives and ministry.

We appreciate you and your prayers.

– Ryan, Sarah, Micah, Eva, Abel & Esme Schmitz
