2019 Giving Envelopes have been prepared for those who continue to use this annual resource. If you would like to begin using this method of giving, please speak with Sathi Selliah or Pat Pitre today.

Time to Pray Each Wednesday evening we gather to pray for the needs of the congregation and community. If you have a request or praise that we can remember, please write it on one of the Information Cards in the pew rack in front of you. Place the completed form in the small church-shaped box on the front, right corner of the platform. All requests will be remembered.

Stretch Class is a new outreach ministry that will begin this Friday, January 11th. It will take place at 10am each Friday in the Fellowship Room. Participants will engage in stretching exercises that increase flexibility and strengthen muscles for good health. Speak with Pastor Cymone to learn more.

Best Years Fellowship will host their next meeting and lunch this Tuesday, January 14th at 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to this time of learning and fellowship.

Church Membership Class will take place this Saturday at 10am. Those who would like to learn more about our church, its practices, its faith, and its place in the family of Christian denominations, are invited to attend. Speak with one of our pastoral staff members today to learn more.

Nicaragua

Missionaries Ryan & Sarah Schmitz serve with the Global Partners agency in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. They wrote recently with an update…

Dear Milliken Church Family,

Three siblings in our Los Colinas School seemed particularly distressed last month. We learned that their mother had been diagnosed with cancer. We offered to help provide for the treatments. But they refused. Their mother had been told my another minister that if she simply claimed faith for healing, she would be cured. Several weeks later, this mother died. Still, the girls were advised that they must leave the body in its bed because their mother would be resurrected on the fourth day. When this failed to happen, the children were devastated. Our hearts broke because of the lack of biblical teaching. We wish we could wrap up this story with a tidy, positive ending.

But the truth is messy and painful. More than ever, we see the desperate need for our Las Colinas school to flourish and grow. We also need to plant churches where healthy, biblical teaching is available to the people. While we grieve for our students’ loss, we also pray for God’s powerful intervention in this country. The government has now taken over the news outlets, expelled nine non-government agencies, and forced the last group of human rights observers out of the country. A sense of fear and dread hangs over the people.

We are continuing to work and live as normally as possible. We believe that significant challenges are ahead. But our role is not to engage politically. We are only here to see children fed and educated, Christian leaders equipped, and new churches planted. We are incredibly grateful that during this challenging year, we have an equally incredible God and Christian team behind us!

God bless you all in the new year!

Sincerely,

Ryan, Sarah, Micah, Eva, Abel & Esme Schmitz
